Family

Monday was dedicated time to help my 88 year old Nanny. She is mostly confined to her home. Nanny was not a typical grandmother, even though we lived within a mile of her most of my life it was a very distant relationship. As a child we would dread having to go to her house, as it meant chores & strict rules when we were allowed in her house. I knew early in I would not want to be this type of grandparent. But as with all relationships there are things I learned & took with me….how to sew & make alterations, the love of antique glasswear, & that unlike her I would ensure my family knew I loved them. My siblings rarely visit her, I go see her at least every other weekend. I do not have the nerve to tell her why they do not visit. Nanny was excited when I asked if I could help around her house for the day. I showed up early Monday morning & was happy to see that my mom was there to help me. Nanny only had 1 thing on her list….yardwork!!! This was the hardest I have worked in a long time we mowed, weed-eated, pulled weeds, raked leaves, moved branches & cleared our flower beds. I WAS EXHAUSTED!! Nanny was very appreciative & insisted that she pay me in crocheted pot holders. I am thankful that I was able to serve my family, & I am trying to figure out how to make this relationship more meaningful. Please say a quick prayer for me, as I will be visiting her again next Monday. I need God to help push me along & to find the right words.
