Relaxing Weekend

I had a lot of fun doing meals on wheels this week. After all Kayla and I have done during this month we are really looking forward to a weekend at home with the dogs. We gets to spend the whole weekend relaxing and just doing whatever we want! As my sabbatical is coming to an end I think we are both ready to get back into a routine and start eating some healthy meal prep again. We have been working out pretty consistently but that doesn’t mean we have been eating well! Hopefully we can start to do both in the coming weeks. I can’t wait to see you all on Wednesday!

Learning to Rest

I’ve never been one for naps or even sleeping much. At the beginning of  this sabbatical journey, I had a tough time getting 7-8 hours of sleep and taking a nap. I’ve started to enjoy my naps even if I don’t fall asleep it’s nice to take some time to intentionally rest every day. I think having the time to work out almost daily has helped me in getting more sleep than usual!

Yesterday I had the pleasure of helping move the grandmother of one of my best friends. We spent almost 7 hours moving her into a new, nicer, and smaller house. Today I am very sore but the gratitude she showed and to see how much it meant to her was definitely worth it. Her husband died last year and their house of 40 years was just too much for her to handle on her own. We tried to make the transition as easy and smooth as possible.

On the agenda for this week is 2 or 3 more days of meals on wheels and do some solid workouts! I think this week I will have to make anether trip to DFW to retrieve by truck that is in the body shop. I have to finish up my Robert Morris book as well. There’s not much time left! I’m looking forward to being home for this last week and a half.

Did you quit your job?

Yesterday one of my long life friends called me up and asked me if I quit my job. For a second I was confused, then I realized why he asked! I had been on multiple vacations back to back and now I was doing meals on wheels in the middle of the day. I got to explain to him what we as a company were doing this year and he loved it! It wasn’t the first time I had told someone what we were doing but it was the first time someone called and was concerned about me not having a job! We had quite the laugh about it and then he told me how lucky I was that I worked for such a great company!

Back in Abilene

I’m back in Abilene today, it’s kind of bittersweet. I am sad I had to leave Cayman but I am excited to start my service project! Today is the first day I go down to meals on wheels here in Abilene. I have never done meals on wheels here in town, I have done it in Fort Worth but never here. The weather is quite gloomy and wet but nevertheless I can’t wait to serve some meals!

How can anyone think there is no God?

I never understand how someone can look at nature and not believe that there is a Creator. Being out here in Grand Cayman with the amazing views, I can’t imagine thinking that all this happened by chance. When I went snorkeling yesterday I saw a wild turtle, a stingray and a huge variety of fish, one being a tarpon that was half my size. It’s just amazing to me that there is millions of miles of oceans with God’s creation in it. I don’t know how I could step foot in the ocean and not believe that something or someone bigger than I created this. Tomorrow we will have the privilege of doing a jet ski tour of the island and I know it will be great. I have done it before and I think this time will be even better. God is amazing, as well as His creation. I am in awe of Him this week.

My Favorite Place

Today I had the privilege of waking up on the 7 mile beach in Grand Cayman, along with my wife and two best friends. The hardest part on this trip will be taking my daily nap! It’s hard to get away from this beach. I’m really enjoying my devotional still, there are a lot of things I’m learning. This is my favorite place in the world. Kayla and I are very excited to show it to our friends. There is something special about getting to show someone something so special to you that they have heard you talk about a million times. I can’t wait for them to see what we always talk about! With better wifi here I will try to post more often.

Play Hard

Ski, ski and more ski! Since my last post I have logged about 10-12 hours of skiing! My duck commander devotional is amazing. I am very glad it is a year long devontional and not just a short 4 week thing. Tonight or tomorrow I will begin reading “The God I never knew” which is suppose to be amazing. After some solid rest/sleep we will be making our way onto the mountain for one last ski day! It’s suppose to be the coldest it has been so far (-6 on the mountain). I took my first nap in probably 3 years yesterday, after about 40 minutes I fee asleep for a good two hours! I hope to continue that trend during this sabbatical!

Sabbatical Kickoff

Today I woke up from a solid 8 hours of sleep in the beautiful snow-filled city of Park City, Utah! We had big plans of snow tubing and dog sledding but those plans were thwarted by too much snow.  Instead we decided to go wander around looking for hills to sled. Kayla and I took her little brother along with us and he had a blast! Tonight I will start reading my devotional, which I am very excited about. I had one of the most restful days I have had in a long time. Tomorrow, we will be waking up early to hit the slopes before they get busy. It should be great skiing because there was so much snow today!

The internet here is not the most reliable so I hope this posts alright.
